How to Apply

Pleas read carefully as this instruction includes important information.

Prospective Purdue Students

If you are applying to Purdue ECE and would like to be considered for NEIS Lab: (1) Apply to the Ph.D. program in ECE, (2) Select “VLSI and Circuit Design” or “Computer Engineering” as your research area, and (3) List Prof. Kim as a potential faculty advisor. Your application will be reviewed once all required materials (including official transcripts and recommendation letters) are received by the Graduate School. In your Statement of Purpose, please highlight why you believe NEIS Lab is a good fit for your research goals.

The Purdue Graduate School priority deadline for full consideration is December 1, 2025. This is a strict deadline. To ensure full consideration for admission and funding, you must submit your application on or before December 1, 2025.

It is optional, but highly recommended that you complete the NEIS Lab Prospective Student Form after submitting your Graduate School application. You will need to sign in with your Google account to upload the required files.

Please note that Prof. Kim is unable to respond to individual email inquiries. He will review your application once it is fully submitted through the Graduate School. If you would like to draw his attention to your materials, submit the NEIS Lab Prospective Student Form instead of emailing your application package.

Current Purdue Graduate/Undergraduate Students

If you are a current Purdue graduate student and interested in joining us, please complete the NEIS Lab Prospective Student Form. I will review and reach out to you within two weeks. You will need to sign in with your Google account to upload the required files.

If you are a current Purdue undergraduate student and interested in continuing your graduate study at Purdue in Fall 2026, please email Prof. Kim including a brief description of your research interests and transcripts. A CV/resume will be helpful if available.

Postdoc Positions

Position Availability and How to Apply

We expect up to two postdoc openings starting in Spring or Fall 2026 (start date flexible). If interested, please email Prof. Kim with (1) your CV, (2) a research statement, and (3) contact information for at least two professional references. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis at the end of each month until the positions are filled.

External Funding Opportunities

It is optional, but if you plan to apply for external postdoc funding opportunities, please reach out as early as possible so we can work together on developing strong proposals.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

We occasionally have opportunities for undergraduates to gain research experience. Typically, we recommend students be juniors or seniors who have completed a few 300- or 400-level courses. First-year students are encouraged to build their background through advanced coursework before applying unless they have exceptional prior experience. If you believe you meet these criteria, please see Undergraduate Research Opportunities.

Teaching Assistant Positions

Prof. Kim works with TAs for his ECE 362 (Microprocessor Systems and Interfacing) and ECE 568 (Embedded Systems). TAs are recruited centrally by the department. Interested students should apply when the TA application opens. You do not need to email Prof. Kim for TA position inquiries. Applicants who have previously taken the course (or an equivalent) will receive priority consideration.
