Foles is attempting to join a very exclusive club on Sunday by being only the second man to beat Tom Brady in a Super Bowl. But just who is he? And why will he definitely not be a Philadelphia Eagles player in two seasons' time? Well the answer to the first question is that Foles is an extremely underrated quarterback who is capable of playing and competing at the highest level. But now in his second stint with Philly, there have, at times, been concerns about Foles’ ability to cope with the complex offence systems needed to succeed in the NFL. After being traded to the St Louis (now LA) Rams in 2015, Foles began well for his new team but after a string of poor performances he was benched and eventually traded to Kansas City.
But when the Chiefs failed to extend his one-year deal, Foles hit the market as a free agent and returned to Philly, signing a five-year deal - more on that later - as backup to new NFL star Carson Wentz.
After Wentz’s injury of what could have been an MVP season in week 15 of this campaign, Foles has been thrust into the spotlight again and would be granted a place in NFL folklore if he topples Brady and the Patriots dynasty on Sunday.
How much will Foles get if he wins Super Bowl?
He will, of course, earn the same $112,000 every other player is guaranteed if they win on Sunday, as players’ salaries only cover the regular season (Sunday’s losers take home $56k).
But what about that five-year contract he signed last year and why won’t Foles be in Philly come 2019?
Well, a major stipulation in Foles' five-year deal says that if he is still on the Eagles roster in February 2019, the final three years of his deal will automatically be voided and he will once again be a free agent.
