Sweden centre-back Lindehof, 22, arrived at United’s Carrington base earlier today before completing his £30.8million move from Benfica. His arrival is just the start as far as Mourinho is concerned, though – with the United manager keen to get Real Madrid striker Morata signed up in a £65million deal. Mourinho wants a proven goalscorer to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is using the club’s facilities to get fit again despite not being offered a contract extension after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage in April. Morata fits the bill, and United are hopeful of talking down Real Madrid from their £78million valuation of the Spain striker.

Juanma Lopez, Morata’s agent, was in talks with Real officials last night in a bid to push a deal closer to completion. The forward has a good relationship with Mourinho, who gave him a senior debut at Real Madrid in December 2010. Morata, 24, returned to the Bernabeu last summer after two seasons with Juventus, but has been unable to force his way into a forward line dominated by Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
