GETTY Cheat with one of the latest body-shaping treatments for summer
Summer holidays are nearly here and it’s time to think about the beach. If you are hoping to tone up before you slip into your bikini, then why not cheat with one of the latest body-shaping treatments? It’s worth bearing in mind that many of these procedures take at least a month to show results so now is the perfect time to start. A word of caution: when you are researching which treatment is right for you, be wary of so-called miracle lunchtime treatments that are offered by some beauty salons. In most cases it is not possible to shift the amount of fat that is promised. There can be huge differences in how the body breaks down the fat so results can be inconsistent from one patient to the next. Read our guide to the best tried-and-tested treatments below.
BANISH LOVE HANDLES If you’re stuck with stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, then Bodytite could be a solution. This removes excess fat and tightens the skin at the same time. Three areas of the body can be treated in one session, including the ankles, bingo wings, back, inner and outer thighs and stomach. After being given a local anaesthetic, a cannula is inserted under the skin to remove fat. Then radiofrequency energy is used to boost collagen levels and tighten the skin. Cost: From £2,000 Zap Excess Hair IPL hair removal has been proven to be the most effective way of permanently getting rid of unwanted hair. It’s quick, gentle and painless and won’t damage the skin. The treatment works by sending high-intensity light beams down the shaft of each hair. The light hits the hair follicle and shatters the root, destroying the hair so it does not grow again. Cost: From £80 per session

FADE THREAD VEINS About 50 per cent of women suffer from thread or spider veins, the tiny broken blood vessels that can be seen just under the skin. The thin red, blue or purple lines mostly appear on legs, due to the pressure of sitting and standing for long periods and often develop in clusters like little spiders’ webs, hence the name. Microsclerotherapy involves injecting a solution at several points along the veins which causes the vein walls to collapse. Over time the body absorbs the veins leaving clear skin. Most people need two to four sessions four weeks apart and you will need to wear compression stockings afterwards. Cost: From £150 BOOST YOUR BOTTOM The Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure designed to restore curves and fullness to the behind. Fat is taken from the stomach, hips and thighs and injected into the buttocks to give them a curvier shape. Expect two to three weeks of recovery time and some bruising and swelling. You may also need a top-up treatment after a year. Cost: From £4,500
