Williams racing driver Lance Stroll insisted he will not miss Brazilian team-mate Felipe Massa in a scathing interview as the veteran driver takes to twitter to tell Stroll to keep his comments to himself.
Stroll's comments centred around an annoyance that outside influences believe Massa acted as a mentor for the young driver - an idea that Stroll insisted was wide of the mark.
'He was a team-mate like any other. He was busy trying to drive as fast as he could, and I was trying to drive as fast as I could. That was it. There was nothing more to it than that,' he told Autosport.
Lance Stroll took aim at retired Brazilian Williams team-mate Felipe Massa in a recent interview
The 19-year-old wanted to make clear that Massa never gave him guidance to improve
But Massa took to social media in response to tell Stroll to keep comments to himself in future
'I don't think I had any guidance from him last year, whatsoever. He was a team-mate like any other. He was busy trying to drive as fast as he could, and I was trying to drive as fast as I could. That was it. There was nothing more to it than that.
'I don't know why people seem to think there was a coach or a mentor thing going on.
'There wasn't; it was just him doing his job and me doing mine, and whoever did it better finished ahead. Whether my team-mate is someone with 15 years' experience or someone of one year's experience, my approach doesn't change.'
Brazilian Massa replaced Valterri Bottas at Williams before retiring at the end of last season
Stroll took issue with suggestions that Massa acted as a mentor or a coach for him last season
Massa went on record earlier in the season alongside Stroll that working with the Canadian rookie mirrored the mentoring he got from Michael Schumacher at Ferrari at the start of his own racing career.
After Valtteri Bottas moved to partner Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, Massa was recruited to partner Stroll before he retired from Grand Prix racing for a second time at the end of the 2018 season
Rookie Sergey Sirotkin will replace the Brazilian, giving Williams the youngest driver line-up on the F1 grid as Stroll showed no disappointment regarding Massa's departure from the sport.
