Matthews topped Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who led the league in sales last season. The 20-year-old sensation had previously finished fourth in sales during the 2016-17 season, the same year he earned NHL rookie of the year honors.
Matthews was selected by Toronto with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and has recorded 74 goals and 58 assists in his first two NHL seasons.
Crosby was the runner-up in sales this season, while Oilers center Connor McDavid, Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist rounded out the top five, respectively.
