Madison Brengle and Jamie Loeb upset their opponents in Saturday's semifinals, setting up an all-American championship match Sunday in the Dow Tennis Classic at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
Brengle, 27, was the No. 3 seed, but knocked off No. 1 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu, 6-4, 6-1, in the first semifinal of the $100,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event. Buzanrescu is ranked 43rd in the world, while Brengle is ranked 90th.
Brengle, from Dover, Delaware, was ranked 35th in the world in 2015 and owns wins over Petra Kyitova and Serena Williams.
Loeb, 22, was unseeded, making her second appearance in the Dow Tennis Classic. The Ossining, New York native beat No. 2 seed Jennifer Brady and earned a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win. Brady is ranked 95th in the world, while Loeb is ranked 153rd.
The singles championship match begins at 1 p.m., followed by the doubles championship match, which also features an all-American cast.
Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria will face Jessica Pegula and Maria Sanchez.
