"Sometimes your serve matches up better against certain players. There's no doubt about that," said the defending eight-time champion.
Federer unleashed a thunderous forehand to earn the first two break points of the match. Next, an uncontrolled effort from Lacko gave a 4-3 advantage to the 36-year-old Swiss.
Another effortless topspin-loaded swing from Federer, which claimed the opening break of the second set, was followed by a 60-second service game to pull away with a 4-2 lead.
