New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award, as expected after his chief competition, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, went down with an ACL injury on Dec 10.
Wentz, however, picked up the FedEx Air Player of the Year Award during Saturday’s NFL Honors at Northrup at the University of Minnesota. He will be on the sidelines Sunday to root against Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Wentz broke the Eagles’ team record for touchdowns passes in a single season with 33. He threw his 33rd after he tore his ACL against the Los Angeles Rams, a win that wrapped up the NFC East title. He completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 3,269 yards and just seven interceptions.
Doug Pederson lost out on the Coach of the Year award. That went to the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay, even though Pederson had a better record and beat McVay’s Rams head to head with a backup quarterback in Nick Foles finishing up the 43-35 win that day in L.A.
