INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- When Dwyane Wade was asked about his on-court partnership with LeBron James, he said the two stars are like "peanut butter and jelly."
Well, Smuckers and Jif were paying attention and gifted the Cavaliers with some sweet treats early Friday morning.
"We're celebrating the kick-off to the season the only way we know how -- with PB&J," Mark T. Smucker wrote. "We're proud to share the PB&J love with our hometown Cavs! Enjoy a PB&J with your family and friends."
Smucker, the president and chief executive of the Orville-headquartered company, ended his message with a new hashtag (#TheLandofPBJ).
The gift baskets, personalized for each player with their faces on them, were shaped like basketballs and placed on a rack. They contained one jar of jelly and one jar of peanut butter so guys can make their own sandwiches.
PB&J sandwiches are known league wide as a go-to snack or even a pregame meal for players seeking a better option than greasy junk food.
According to an ESPN article, the Cavs, courtesy of their partnership with Smucker's, give out about a dozen of the company's prepackaged Uncrustables PB&J's to opposing teams every game night.
Prior to every game, the Cavs have their own PB&J's, with homemade grape and raspberry jelly, as well as almond butter-and-banana and peanut butter-and-banana sandwiches sitting on a table near the entrance to the showers.
Thanks to Smucker's and Jif, the Cavs don't have to wait until game time. Just like Wade and James, the partnership is like peanut butter and jelly.
