And that is how it is playing out after retired boxing champion Mayweather refuted rumours regarding the pair's proposed cross-combat blockbuster.

Responding to reports that he and UFC star McGregor had agreed to "a multimillion dollar deal," Mayweather took to social media to insist he is "happily retired" after walking away from the sport in 2015. It was only a matter of time before McGregor hit back, and the Irish star did exactly that via Instagram.
