The event will remain titled as Tiger Woods' National event this year, but his foundation is expected to end after 2018.
Detroit has never hosted a PGA Tour event, but the Buick Open was hosted by northern suberb Grand Blanc for 45 years between 1958 and 2009. Economic struggles led the company to part ways with the Tour.
Quicken Loans has helped revitalize Detroit, with the company sponsoring a massive basketball/hockey arena right next to Ford Field and Comerica Park. The 2019 Quicken Loans is expected to be played at Detroit Golf Club.
“This tournament will not only bring together some of the best golfers in the world, it also highlights the breathtaking revitalization happening throughout Detroit,” said Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner, via pgatour.com. “There is an undeniable energy in the city that we are eager to showcase. This event will introduce hundreds of thousands of visitors to the vibrant art, restaurants, architecture, nightlife and atmosphere that you can only find right here in Detroit.”
