Diversity Essay

**For graduates of U.S. high schools only**

Many graduate programs use the diversity essay as a criterion when determining recommendations for fellowships. The diversity essay should be 500 words or less responding to the following statement:

Describe your leadership, work experience, service experience, or other significant involvement with racial, ethnic, socio-economic, or educational communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in higher education, and how these experiences would promote a diversity of views, experiences, and ideas in the pursuit of research, scholarship, and creative excellence.

The Purdue University Doctoral Fellowship, David M. Knox Fellowship, or George Washington Carver Fellowship, all require the submission of the diversity essay. Potential recipients of these fellowships are students who have received a degree from an accredited U.S. high school (include name of U.S. High School, City, State, and Zip code in your essay) and demonstrate superior academic achievements and abilities.
