Project Overview:

Both adherence and abuse are major problems in the pharmaceutical industry that have yet to be addressed by existing methods and technology. In order to improve general patient health and provide a robust body of data for pharmacists, we propose a system in which a pharmacist sends a prescription to a smart medication container. This container will open for a single dose only for the prescribed patient and at the prescribed time. Furthermore, it will log data about when the dose was taken, and can remind the patient to take his or her medication. This information will be available to both the patient as well as his or her pharmacist.

Project Specific Success Criteria:

  1. PSSC #1: An ability to clearly communicate to the patient that a dose should be taken through the use of lights, sound, and/or the use of texts or notifications.
  2. PSSC #2: An ability to make a single dose of medication available for dispensing at the correct time according to the given prescription.
  3. PSSC #3: An ability to configure the bottle for connection to a user's home wireless network using TI's Smart Config protocol.
  4. PSSC #4: An ability to access information on medication adherence and modify prescription and patient information on the device using a WiFi connection.
  5. PSSC #5: An ability to lock the device after filling a prescription at the pharmacy and detect via a tamper-proof lid circumvention of the dispensing mechanism.
