CML Computer Resources:

    The Composite Materials Laboratory has access to extensive computer resources for analyzing data and preparing reports and presentations. Most of our finite element modeling and analysis is done on UNIX (Sun Solaris) Workstations that are managed by ECN. The CML also maintains a network of PC workstations for some finite element work, all of our automatic data acquisition, and for the preparation of our presentations and reports.

    Below you will find information relating to both the PC and UNIX computers. If you still have problems or questions about the UNIX computers, please contact the AAE Site Specialist from ECN.

When choosing where to run a compute job, use the following guidelines:

  • Use the "ruptime" command to check the load on each system or "uptime" if you are already logged into the machine of interest. A load of 3 on Gus means that three out of the four CPUs are occupied. A load of 5 on Gus means too many jobs are running and are competing for CPU time.
  • Roger should not be used for running jobs or software. This allows the fileservers do interactive work.
  • Fiber is available only to CML users, so you don't have to compete for processor time with the rest of the AAE department.
