Cecil Piya is a PhD student in the school of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. Mr. Piya received his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and is currently working as a graduate research assistant in C-Design Lab. His research entails development of novel Human-Computer Interactions that leverage spatial gestures and tangible 3D interfaces to support virtual shape modeling applications. In the past he has also conducted research in areas such as digital shape reconstruction, geometric reverse engineering for additive manufacturing, feature detection in virtual mechanical parts, and object identification in 2D images.
