WIEP Undergraduate Programs

Mentees & Mentors (M&M) Program

One program matches first and second year students with juniors and seniors, and the other creates mentoring groups for formal and informal activities. In the context of mutual mentoring, students receive affirmation and strategies to succeed in engineering.

A free tutoring service for first-year classes is offered.  Co-sponsored by the WIEP and the Women in Science Program, the tutoring is located in the conference room at Earhart Hall for the convenience of the students who live on the engineering floors.  All are welcome to take advantage of the service, regardless of living arrangements.  No appointments are necessary or taken.

ENGR 494:  Women in Engineering Senior Seminar:  Gender in the Workplace

This one-credit course provides junior and senior engineering students an opportunity to maximize their earning potential, promotion opportunities, and retention within engineering or related fields. The class welcomes guest facilitators who share stories and tips about their time in various engineering-related careers and students also learn and practice peer coaching skills.

Women in Engineering Residential Program

Undergraduate women majoring in engineering can choose to live on one of the engineering-designated floors of Earhart Hall or Harrison Hall. The program encourages the formation of study groups, provides student and alumnae speakers, and offers a tutoring service (see below) for first-year classes.  To learn more about the WIEP Residential Program, visit http://www.purdue.edu/studentsuccess/orientation/learning_communities/profiles/engineering/earhart.html

 WIEP and SWE Merit Awards

Continuing student incentive awards, provided by corporate and alumnae donations, range from $100 to $2,000. These awards encourage outstanding academic achievement and student leadership. More than $50,000 of awards are given annually.  These awards are given at the annual SWE Awards Banquet each year.  Applications for SWE/WIEP continuing student merit awards will be available in the fall.

Leadership Programs

Each semester 20 to 40 undergraduate students serve as program assistants for the Women in Engineering Programs. They gain experience in teamwork, program design, research, program evaluation, and the planning, organization, and facilitation of meetings and activities.  Stop by the Women in Engineering Office and let us know if you are interested in this opportunity!
