2004 Poster and Print Exchange

The Purdue Graduate Student Government with support from the UVAC is now sponsoring the Annual Print and Poster Exchange. This program provides Purdue faculty, staff, and graduate staff members the opportunity to borrow from the over 3000 framed posters. The collection also includes an additional 3000 unframed prints. (1/3 of the over 6000 total prints in the Collection is currently decorating many walls across the Purdue University campus!).

The artwork is loaned for a period of 12 to 36 months, after which time it is returned and may be exchanged for different pieces. Donations are always welcome and go straight to the cost for framing additional prints.

Art posters are also installed in various locations around campus, including foyers, hallways, and laboratories.

If you need to return a poster early because you can't make the exchange or if the poster is damaged, send email to olinger@purdue.edu.

Exchange FAQ

Who can participate?

The Poster Exchange is open to all faculty, staff, and grad student staff who have previously participated in the Exchange, who wish to donate to the program.

How do I donate to the Poster Exchange?

Donations to the Lending collection can be made at the door and through payroll deduction. All donors will be entered in a drawing to win an Engineering Fountain original print, donated by Purdue's own Julie Correll.

How will my donation be used?

All donations go directly to the cost of framing additional prints for the collection.

Where can I hang my borrowed poster?

Lending collection pictures are to be hung on campus in offices, conference rooms and reception areas with borrowing limited to Purdue staff and faculty.

When should I trade a picture I borrowed?

We ask that you return or exchange any posters that have been checked out for three or more years. Posters can be exchanged annually if you choose.

What if I forget?

Emails will be sent out each year reminding program participants what they have borrowed and when it should be returned or exchanged.

What if I move to a different department or leave the university?

If you have borrowed posters and have moved to a different area, please let us know where the prints are and who is responsible for them.

Mid-year Participation Option Is Available

Well, this option takes money! But you get exactly what you want.

If an office wishes to spend money (usually around $150 per poster), Tricia Olinger will meet with them to select the posters of choice. When the posters arrive mats are selected, frames are ordered, and when everything is assembled they are delivered ready to hang. (A pretty great service!)

This method allows an area to obtain posters that are selected to co-ordinate with wall coloring and furnishings, as well as being sized to fit a particular area. While these posters "officially" are part of the Lending Collection, the selecting department is permitted to retain them for extended periods.

However, upon retirement from the department, the posters are returned to the Collection and begin to circulate with the next Poster Exchange.

How it happens...

  1. Contact Tricia Olinger - olinger@purdue.edu
  2. Select poster(s) from catalog Tricia provides
  3. Transfer funding to PGSG (departments usually use money in "gift" fund)
  4. Tricia orders posters
  5. Choose matting after poster(s) arrive
  6. Tricia orders frames/plexi/etc
  7. Delivery of framed poster(s) to your office
  8. Enjoy!

Money Saving Mid-year Participation Option

Using this method, a department would select from matted prints already part of the collection, but not yet framed. (The UVAC does not have enough funding to frame the complete collection.) At a cost of $100 per print, an area could have art on the wall within 30 days. WOW!
