It is a high compliment for a student to be recognized by the University Visual Arts Committee. When a student's work is purchased by the Committee, it is selected to be hung with award plaque in a public room on campus. Over the years many students and campus visitors will see these artworks and appreciate the talent shared.

Thoughts from the artists...

SPACE, 28 x 24 in. Color on Korean Paper, 2010

"While I was randomly walking on the street, I saw a movement between buildings. My view changed through each space of the buildings, and simple straight lines and contour lines finally remain in my mind rather than thinking about the specific formations of the buildings. I have borrowed the geometric structures of architecture shown in our modern civilization. Based on these contemporary constructions, I have assumed these structures to be symbolic of modern nature, and representative architectural space has evolved in harmony with the geometric spaces of linear formative elements."

The Kraken Cometh, 26"w x 32"h, acrylic on mattboard

The "Treasures of Indiana" exhibit featured buildings and places horded by mythological creatures. A treasure can be defined as something emotional and representational, not necessarily physical. The Kraken wraps around the Indianapolis War Memorial in downtown Indy.

I used acrylic on mattboard which is an nontraditional medium. The process involved building layers of color on top of each other, often utilizing complimentary colors.

Vanilla Cream & Chocolate Wafer Pie, 13"w x 16"h, screenprint, etching, acrylic and hand stitching

In the piece “Vanilla Cream and Chocolate Wafer Pie” I am encouraging to viewer to question pre-existing standards we assume to be valid. By coupling the recipe for a wafer pie with the three dimensionality of a flippable dress, it is my intent for this juxtaposition to investigate the formation of identity in a contemporary world where pressures of gender roles and femininity still persevere. This piece is a combination of screenprint, etching, acrylic and hand stitching.
