It was a long and difficult process but after much deliberation the UVAC committee decided on Flourish by Don Lawler-White.
Lawler-White’s piece is made from stone and designed with touch in mind. The textures he used to create this piece invite exploration.
"The stone sculptures by Don Lawler have a distinctive and recognizable combination of forms and textures. Rendered with dynamic composition and a strong sense of design, the representational images are created to be accessible to the public. The sculptures reward interaction with a touchable variety of tactile sensations. The 'palette' of textures include rough natural surfaces, often leaving the marks of the quarry process intact."
One of two pieces he submitted to the competition was Past, Present and Future and while the piece is very impressive the committee decided upon Flourish.
Flourish will soon be placed in Pickett Park for everyone to enjoy.
