Artist's Statement
I am thrilled that the Visual Arts Committee purchased my print "The Hills of Venus". In "The Hills of Venus", Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty and love, becomes the landscape of hilly farmland. A cup, symbolizing relationships, pours out a promise of life onto the fertile land. Its title is based upon this imagery and is taken in part from a literary work by William Morris. Most of my artwork, done in media such as metalwork and textiles, contains strong linear elements which tend to flatten and abstract the imagery. Nature and the world are the primary subjects in my work.
As far as other awards, I have not received any for my artwork, but I have for teaching. I received the Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching award from Purdue in April 2001. I did graduate in May 2002 with an M.A. in Art Education. I am currently teaching Art Appreciation on a limited term basis.
