The SigNals Of Opportunity: P-band Investigation (SNOOPI) <\/a>satellite is successfully launched with NASA cargo mission CRS-30 on Mar 22, 2024. The CubeSat will be following the cargo ship to the International Space Station (ISS) approximately 38 hours into launch<\/a>. SNOOPI will be launched from ISS shortly after arrival. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Garrison expects SNOOPI will show whether “signals of opportunity” (SoOp) can be effective alternatives to radar systems that transmit and read back their own signal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This proof-of-concept mission follows from decades of Garrison\u2019s work. He performed some of the earliest research on signals of opportunity. He was also on the science team for NASA\u2019s Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) mission<\/a>, which used this technique to measure wind speed over oceans. Garrison was also elevated to fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (EEE)<\/a> for his contributions to SoOp field, and his students have earned prestigious research grants for SoOp work<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
