Tom decided to come to Purdue to study engineering. According to Tom, "I made the decision to attend Purdue because the engineering program is one of the most well respected nationwide. By participating in the Co-Op program with DLZ in Indianapolis I will be able to both at Purdue and enjoy college life while gaining valuable work experience.

Although I have not yet started work, I am excited about the opportunities waiting for me at my Co-Op employer, DLZ. On the job experience will allow me to apply and fine-tune the skills I have learned in the classroom. It also will provide me a head start on skills I will learn in class later. By the time I graduate I will have more work experience than most of the students I graduate with. This will allow me the greatest career opportunities. The work sessions will force me to live on my own during which time I will have to maintain a residence and budget my income to allow for a comfortable lifestyle. The life lessons I will learn in this process will ease the transition from the college world to the professional world after graduation."
