Whom it’s For
The online master's degree program is for working professional engineers focused on gaining new skills, enhancing job
performance or advancing their careers in the field of mechanical engineering.
An online Master's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering links you to virtually every area of technology. Our online
MSME curriculum provides the foundation for you to develop innovative products, solutions and systems for many of today's fastest
growing industries. As a student of the online MSME program, you'll have access to our world-renowned faculty who routinely conduct
interdisciplinary studies in nanotechnology and other cutting-edge specialties as part of this consistently top 10-ranked mechanical engineering masters program.
Mechanical Engineering restricts the online MSME to candidates who have an undergraduate degree in ME. Individuals interested in earning a degree with emphasis in ME that do not have an ME bachelor's degree should look to earn a concentration in ME as part of the interdisciplinary degree.
You must apply and be admitted to the Mechanical Engineering masters program. You will register for and take all
your classes through Engineering Professional Education (ProEd).
No preset Master of Science plan of study is required, and both non-thesis and thesis options are available. With a MSME faculty committee, you will form a plan of study that fits your overall goals and aspirations and satisfies the minimum mathematics requirements of the online Mechanical Engineering degree. Both thesis and non-thesis mechanical engineering masters programs require a minimum of 30 hours of coursework, or a total of 10 classes. In the thesis option, nine credits of coursework are given for the thesis research. The online mechanical engineering degree courses are offered in the following topics:
- Computational Engineering
- Acoustics and Noise Control
- Fluid Mechanics and Propulsion
- Heat Transfer
- Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Manufacturing and Materials Processing
- Mechanics and Vibrations
- Systems, Measurement and Control
Delivery Format Options
Mechanical engineering masters program classes are made available primarily through streaming video over the Internet and downloadable MPEG-4 files.
