Students must be at the level of advanced undergraduate or graduate student in an engineering or science related field. Students must have completed college level general chemistry, calculus, differential equations and linear algebra.

Homework will be accepted via Blackboard. Documents should be uploaded as a pdf to avoid file and software compatibility issues.

Projects:

Project is Required. Every student is expected to give a presentation on a published paper from the scientific literature. Papers will vary in specific topic and application. Students will have some choice in selection of their paper. Distance students may make their presentation live via internet connection or submit a recorded presentation using software such as VoiceThread

Computer Requirements:

ProEd Minimum Computer Requirements. Students are expected to use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software proficiently. Students are expected to be able to perform calculations using tools from college level calculus, differential equations and linear algebra. In some cases software (e.g. matlab, mathematical, advanced spreadsheet tools) may be used to facilitate calculations. To facilitate collaboration and presentations between the classroom and distance students, the free online software VoiceThread may be used.

Other Requirements:

Students should plan to use the free software, Voicetread, to upload presentations with audio content. This requires basic presentation software (powerpoint), a microphone on a computer, and access to the internet. Distance students will benefit the most if they can be available during the course meeting time (Thurs, 5:30pm-8:30pm) to connect with the class live when possible.
