Biosensors: Fundamentals and Applications

An introduction to the field of biosensors and an in-depth and quantitative view of device design and performance analysis. An overview of the current state of the art to enable continuation into advanced biosensor work and design. Topics emphasize biomedical, bioprocessing, environmental, food safety, and biosecurity applications.
Prerequisites:Students must be at the level of advanced undergraduate or graduate student in an engineering or science related field. Students must have completed college level general chemistry, calculus, differential equations and linear algebra.

Homework:Homework will be accepted via Blackboard. Documents should be uploaded as a pdf to avoid file and software compatibility issues.
Projects:Project is Required. Every student is expected to give a presentation on a published paper from the scientific literature. Papers will vary in specific topic and application. Students will have some choice in selection of their paper. Distance students may make their presentation live via internet connection or submit a recorded presentation using software such as VoiceThread
