IE53000 - Quality ControlFall 2017
Days/Time: TBA / TBA
Credit Hours: 3
To help the student understand the concepts involved in the application of statistical methods to industrial problems. Major topics include using control charts to monitor on-going processes, R&R capability studies; design of experiments, acceptance sampling, , and continuous improvement. The emphasis will be on application and to provide the student with the rationale behind the use of various techniques.
This course will cover gage R&R studies, various control charts, including X-bar, R and S charts, CUSUM charts, attribute charts, moving average charts and exponentially weighted moving average charts. Average run lengths, design of control charts, Taguchi's contributions to quality engineering, and acceptance sampling plans will be discussed. Students will also learn how to carry out a process capability study and use design of experiments techniques for process improvement.
The nature of quality and the role of statistics, modern quality philosophy; simple quality assurance tools, measurement, Gage R&R studies, histograms, Pareto diagrams, Fishbone diagrams; Process Monitoring Part I-basics, Shewhart charts for variable and attribute data, Average run length; process monitoring part II-- additional Methods, EWMA and CUSUM charts, multivariate charts, individual and moving range charts; process characterization and capability analysis, stem-and-leaf diagrams, box plots, normal probability plots, process capability studies; design of experiments with an emphasis on factorial designs; sampling inspection, attribute and variable acceptance plans; Six-sigma and TQM environment.
