Print these instructions or keep this window open as you complete the application.
The Graduate School application is available via the Internet only. Please read the instructions below carefully prior to completing and submitting your application as submittal errors may result in delayed processing or overpayment of fees. Since your application may be saved at any time prior to completion, it is recommended that you stop to have your questions answered as you are filling it out rather than submitting an incomplete or incorrect application. If a technical problem occurs while you’re completing the application, click on the “Technical Help” button.

Submit a degree-seeking application IF:

    - You have never submitted an application to Purdue University and you want to be considered for admission to a degree program

OR

    - You are currently a non-degree student with Purdue University and you want to be considered for admission to a degree program.

General instructions for filling out the online application:

  • University ID: You may leave this field blank to have a student ID assigned by Purdue University. You may not use any other national ID number as these numbers may duplicate U.S. numbers.
  • Campus: Select “West Lafayette”
  • Application Fee: The application fee is assessed for new applications, degree-seeking re-entry applications, or if you are not currently registered. If more than one calendar year has elapsed since you’ve taken a Purdue graduate-level course, you will be charged the application fee.
  • Statement of Purpose: Your Statement of Purpose may be uploaded with your application, faxed, e-mailed, or mailed to the Engineering ProEd address. In 300-500 words, please outline your reasons for undertaking or continuing graduate study at Purdue, your professional plans and career goals. You may also explain any irregularities or special circumstances applicable to your background and elaborate on your special abilities, awards, achievements, scholarly publications, and/or professional history. No special form is required for your statement of purpose.
  • Letters of recommendation: Three letters are required. Ideally, letters should cover your academic and scholastic skills, research abilities and experiences, and applied experiences. They should hold a positive view of you and be able to describe your potential for academic and professional work. Aim for a set of letters from individuals who can describe your range of skills. Note: letters from family, friends you know socially, and the like usually are discourage and may, in fact, be detrimental. You may request the letters electronically as part of your application. The request will come from ProEd in one of these formats:
    • o If you list a recommender as online and include a valid e-mail address, the system will generate an e-mail message to the recommender. The e-mail will ask for a letter of recommendation with instructions on how to submit it electronically. You may also generate reminder messages to the recommender. In this case, the “sender” of the e-mail will be Purdue.

o If you list a recommender as off-line, the person will need to fill out the paper form and mail it to:

      Graduate Program Secretary
      Engineering Professional Education
      Potter Engineering Center, Rm. 364
      500 Central Dr.
      West Lafayette IN 47907-2022

Or fax it to ProEd at: (765) 494-6628.

  • Proof of English proficiency: International applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit scores that meet minimum English proficiency requirements. This may be waived if your undergraduate degree is from an English-speaking institution, or if you have a green card or are a naturalized citizen. Please refer to the Graduate School Policies on English Proficiency Requirements, or check with ProEd if you have questions.

  • Original transcripts: Original transcripts (with English translations as appropriate) are required for all colleges/universities you have attended.
    • o A copy of your diploma (with English translation as appropriate) may be required for non-U.S. institutions.
