The Purdue Geotechnical Society was founded in May 2003 to enhance the strong bond and working relationship among alumni, faculty, students, and staff of the Geotechnical Engineering group at Purdue University for the benefit of all.

2024 PGS Workshop & 20th G.A. Leonards Lecture

Registration is now open for the 2024 Purdue Geotechnical Society event. The PGS Workshop and the 20th G.A. Leonards Lecture will take place on Friday, April 12th.

The theme for the workshop is Geotechnics of Dams. It aligns with the subject of the Leonards Lecture, Seismic Design Considerations for Tailings Storage Facilities, which will be given by Professor Jonathan D. Bray of the University of California, Berkeley. For his outstanding contributions to geotechnical and earthquake engineering research, education and practice, Professor Bray has been recognized as a leader of our profession, and we are thrilled that he has accepted our invitation to give the Leonards Lecture.

The workshop will consist in a full day of technical presentations including Keynote Lectures and discussions. Dr. Georgette Hlepas, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will give one of the Keynotes on Performance Monitoring of Dams – Best Practices for Informed Decision Making. Professor Timothy Stark, of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will give the other Keynote on Flow Failure Assessment for Dams and Embankments. Eleven shorter presentations complete the program.

The Leonards Lecture will be followed by a reception and dinner.
