Information for Parents

Grade Release Policy

Grade Release Policy

Though it can be frustrating for parents, we are not at liberty to release information about a student's academic performance. This policy is not unique to the College of Engineering or Purdue University. It is federally regulated and applies to all colleges and universities equally.

We are governed by federal regulations concerning our communication with parents regarding students' academic status. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, also known as FERPA or the Buckley Amendment, states, "All students enrolled or formerly enrolled in postsecondary institutions have rights under the Act and regulations regardless of whether they are eighteen and regardless of whether they are dependent on their parents."

We encourage parents to maintain an open and supportive dialogue with their student so that this will not be an issue.
