Purdue's Ponghiran Presented at ISCAS

C-BRIC researcher Wachirawit "Mint" Ponghiran from Purdue University presented work at the 56th IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS). Ponghiran presented his joint work with Chamika Liyanagedera, Manish Nagaraj and Kaushik Roy "Low-Power Real-Time Sequential Processing with Spiking Neural Networks" at the ISCAS conference held in Monterey, California May 21-25, 2023. ISCAS is "the flagship conference of the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society and the world’s premiere forum for researchers in the active fields of theory, design and implementation of circuits and systems." 
 
Ponghiran presented the group's invited paper which focuses on improved training of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs). Specifically, the Purdue team highlighted the "ongoing development of spiking neural networks for low-power real-time sequential processing and the potential to improve their training through an understanding of the information flow" in this paper. The paper shows how bio-lausible SNNs are a mainstay for machine learning practitioners to gain superior compute efficiency.
 
Ponghiran and Liyanagedera are Purdue University PhD graduates and Nagaraj is a current Purdue PhD student all under the direction of Kaushik Roy. Roy is the C-BRIC Director and a faculty member at Purdue University.
