Purdue researchers Presented at AAAI

C-BRIC researchers at Purdue University presented at the 37th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Gobinda Saha and Kaushik Roy presented their work "Continual Learning with Scaled Gradient Projection" at the AAAI conference held in Washingto, DC February 7-14, 2023. AAAI is a research conference held to promote work in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The conference is held to "foster scientific exchange between researchers, practitioners, scientists, students, and engineers across the entirety of AI and its affiliated disciplines" with the intent to create collaborations "within and beyond AI."

 

Saha and Roy presented "Continual Learning with Scaled Gradient Projection" which focuses on catastrophic forgetting during continual learning. They proposed the Scaled Gradient Projection (SGP) method in this work to "improve new learning while minimizing forgetting." SGP is an "efficient method for computing and accumulating importance... using the singular value decomposition of the

input representations for each task." The method results in better performance and less training overhead.

 

Gobinda Saha is currently a PhD student at Purdue University under the direction of Kaushik Roy. Roy is the C-BRIC Director and a faculty member at Purdue University.
