Rheology is the study of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids and soft materials under conditions of applied force, typically shear or extensional. How materials behave under these conditions has direct implications for material processing (e.g., injection molding of polymers, solution coating of thin films, casting of cement, roll-to-roll printing of fluids). Many materials can be characterized by rheometry including: liquids, suspensions, slurries, polymer melts and solutions, concrete, and geological and bio-materials.
