Graduate Program

The School offers both PhD and MS degrees in the field of Materials Engineering. PhD degree applicants receive primary consideration for financial support, but the MS degree be considered especially if funding is provided by industry, government, or self. Students who wish to obtain an MS on the way to a PhD should apply directly to the PhD program.  The programs emphasize the application of the basic sciences to the understanding of the structure, properties, and processing of materials. Programs of study are designed to broaden and deepen the student's knowledge of those parts of the field which are of most universal applicability. Admission is open to students with undergraduate Baccalaureate degrees not only in the field of Materials Engineering but also in other engineering and science fields. Students are encouraged to apply early in the fall term. Admission is based upon prior performance and projected success as indicated by undergraduate scholastic performance, industrial work experience, and recommendations from those most familiar with the student's record. Admission is based on the entire application package. Please pay close attention to detail as you apply to ensure that you will present yourself well.
