Academics

Today, more than ever before, the knowledge and skills of talented persons with degrees in mechanical engineering are vitally needed to serve our society. The diversity of the field has made the work of mechanical engineers critical to problem solving in virtually every field of technology.

Purdue University's School of Mechanical Engineering is shaping its academic programs around these challenges and we are proud to offer our students the education needed for success in the twenty-first century.

Mechanical engineering encompasses many areas. In short, anything that involves the design and/or manufacturing of mechanical, thermal, or electronic devices and/or processes falls within the realm of mechanical engineering.

Purdue's mechanical engineering program balances theory and practice. Our strong curriculum gives students a solid grounding in the theory behind traditional and emerging areas in mechanical engineering and provides a strong hands-on component through labs, design and build activities, and student machine shops. Students also can apply what they have learned through one-on-one research with a faculty member in their chosen area of interest. Our graduates depart with a rich understanding of engineering theories, along with an ability to apply these theories to real-life problems in real-life situations.

We look forward to the opportunity to discuss our program with you.
