Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is an attractive replacement for a portion of the virgin aggregates and asphalt liquid. Incorporating milled pavement also reduces the need for disposal of the asphalt that contains valuable aggregate and asphalt.
JTRP’s participation in a regional, multi-state research effort led to new specifications that became effective in 2010.
Of more than 3 MILLION TONS of hot-mixed asphalt placed in 2012, INDOT used over 600,000 TONS of recycled asphalt pavement.
The projected cost savings for INDOT is $10-15 million in contract costs annually.
