Minutes of Meeting #980                                                                              December 4, 2003

 

Present:     Professors, Cipra, Huggins, Lawley, Montgomery, Okos, Rundell, Swain and Wang

 

Absent:     Professors Collicott, Fricker, Revankar, and Spitzer

 

Guest: Andrew Brightman, BME

 

1.   The meeting was called to order by Chair Montgomery.  The agenda was approved as distributed.

 

2.  Meeting minutes #979 were approved as distributed.

 

3. Announcements:  Dean Huggins announced a substantial restructuring of the Dean’s office resulting in a change in his duties to become Associate Dean for a newly formed Office for Resource Planning and Management.  Duties previously associated with the Office of Strategic Initiatives under the leadership of Assistant Dean Klod Kokini have been reallocated and that office closed.  Professor Kokini has agreed to accept appointment as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  Leah Jamieson, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, will assume the duties as administrative member of CFR effective January 1, 2004.

 

4.  Rundell moved that EFD 16-03 be approved for distribution to the faculty; Okos seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

§         EFD 16-03 was approved for distribution to the faculty.

 

5.  Rundell moved that EFD 17-03 be approved for distribution to the faculty; Okos seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

§         EFD 17-03 was approved for distribution to the faculty.

 

6.  Rundell moved that EFD 18-03 be approved for distribution to the faculty; Okos seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

§         EFD 18-03 was approved for distribution to the faculty.

 

7.   Dean Huggins led a discussion of the BME undergraduate program.  The committee was asked to reflect about how it should review and process the anticipated BME curriculum when prior faculty approval of all undergraduate courses cannot be attained before students must preregister in March.  After discussion, the committee agreed to consider a proposed curriculum that would run parallel with the six remaining EFDs that are pending.  The first meeting of the spring semester will be scheduled as soon as possible in January.

 

8.  The meeting was adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
