IVM Overview:
At IVM lab we: (1) research visualization technologies and information models to capture, share, and document life cycle information to support construction management practices, and (2) research emerging computer graphics technologies to develop and validate innovative educational tools that support student learning and lead to effective instructional approaches in the engineering and technology curricula. The IVM lab is the research counterpart of the BIM lab, a teaching lab that focuses on the teaching of technologies that serve the design, construction and assessment of the built environment.
Please visit our project section to explore some of our ongoing projects.

Hazar Dib
MSCE, Ph.D.
He received his BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering in 2002 from the University of Balamand (Lebanon) and his PhD in Building Construction Management from the University of Florida (USA) in 2007 with Emphasis on Information Sharing and Information Management. He believes that computing and technology are fundamental to the advancement of globalization of science and engineering and he works toward this goal. His research areas include the integration of 3D technologies in information modeling techniques, development of knowledge acquisition methods and strategies for examining and capturing expert design knowledge, sharing lessons learned and historical data to improve design, increase efficiency in the construction processes, and improve the classroom experience of teaching construction management.
Prior to joining the faculty at Purdue University, Dr. Dib worked on management of commercial construction for major construction management companies.
Dr. Dib is the founder and director of the IVM lab

VELS:
An interactive Virtual Environment for Learning Surveying
This project enhances traditional surveying instruction methods with an engaging, interactive Virtual Environment for Learning Surveying (VELS) that can be integrated into surveying courses as a preparation, revision and assessment tool. The project uses innovative educational technologies that support students learning and lead to effective instructional approaches in the engineering curriculum. The VELS supports mathematical representational fluency and includes realistic virtual terrains and surveying instruments that look, operate and produce results comparable to the physical ones.
The VELS is a project funded by the National Science Foundation, Division of Undergraduate Education, award # 1140514
