Snap CircuitsⓇ - Deluxe Snap Rover is a robotic car-base combined with a plastic snap-button grid where children can attach over 50 electrical components to create different circuit configurations. Using the provided instructions, children can build over 60 different circuit projects and give the car different functions. Also included in the set is a wireless remote control, a disc shooter, a digital voice recorder, and instructions for 40 additional circuits which do not involve the rover base. The instructions are laid out like a traditional building set, with each different part corresponding to a color and firmly snapping into a predetermined space. This toy familiarizes children with circuits and how changing the components  of a circuit can affect its performance. The many different circuit types show various aspects of how circuits can be designed to meet any need, while the remote introduces the concept of user interfaces. Children are introduced to engineering thinking and design as they learn how to create different circuits using critical thinking and design-oriented, problem solving skills.

Engineering thinking and design practices the gift encourages children to do or learn about: Define a problem, learn about the problem, try the solution, create the prototype or process, test the solution, analyze the solution, redesign the solution, make improvements to the solution, recognize patterns, apply mathematics, apply science

Engineering text or context explicitly provided by the gift: A problem, criteria, constraints

Additional practices and skills needed by engineers that were addressed by the gift: Critical thinking, creative thinking, designing, problem solving

Overall ratings:

  • Children Reviews

    • Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0

    • Feedback:

      • “I love Snap Circuits, it’s an easy way to make cool contraptions. How they make it into a rover is AWESOME!”

      • “I liked that it shoots discs and it acts like a real rover.”

      • “Some of the noises the speaker makes are annoying. The controller and directions can be hard to understand.”

  • Parents Reviews

    • Rating: 5.0 out of 5.0

    • Feedback:

      • “Kids loved it. The directions were a little wordy for my 10 year old, but the 12 year old helped her through it. I wish we could have tried more projects but we ran out of time!”

      • “It might be a bit technical for younger kids”

  • Engineering & STEM Experts Reviews

    • Rating: 5.0 out of 5.0

    • Feedback:

      • “It has a diverse range of circuits that can be designed using the manual and even without”.

      • “There were numerous circuits that could be made and they were all so different. So, it was fun how the same part can make so many different functions.”

      • “Provides a user friendly way to construct circuits.”
