Laser Maze

Laser Maze™ is a unique puzzle game where players must reach desired targets using a laser beam that they guide using a variety of obstacles. Included in the game is the game grid, 60 challenge cards, and 11 game tokens - a laser, 2 beam-splitters, a mirror, a cell blocker, 5 targets/mirrors, and a checkpoint. With 60 different puzzle challenges ranging from beginner to expert, this game requires critical thinking and an understanding of math and science concepts in order to complete each challenge. The lasers, mirrors, checkpoints, and beam-splitters are all components that may be constrained or manipulated in order to correctly direct the beam onto the targets. This is a hands-on and interactive game, but it also teaches many STEM concepts by bringing the science of lasers into a series of mind-challenging puzzles. Kids will learn how to problem solve through design and to test their solutions as they are given immediate feedback of their successes with the laser beam.

Engineering thinking and design practices the gift encourages children to do or learn about: Ask questions, plan the solution, try the solution, test the solution, make improvements to the solution, apply mathematics, apply science

Engineering text or context explicitly provided by the gift: A problem, criteria, constraints

Additional practices and skills needed by engineers that were addressed by the gift: Spatial reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving
