Circuit Maze

Circuit Maze is an electric current logic game that challenges children to construct circuits to light up different beacons. This game includes 1 game grid, 60 challenge cards, 21 component pieces, and an instruction booklet. The goal of the game is, after adding the pieces shown on the challenge card to the game board, to use the remaining pieces (also shown on the challenge card) to create a circuit and light up several beacons as directed by the card. The cards vary in difficulty from beginner to expert, giving any user the opportunity to improve their skills and enjoy a challenge. This game promotes engineering thinking and design by giving the user a problem that they must consider before coming up with a solution that optimizes the available materials. In addition, there are multiple solutions to each challenge card so the user is encouraged to come  up with their own unique solution rather than find the one possible solution. Children also learn about the basics of circuit design and contextual design as they piece together more of the game’s challenges!

Engineering thinking and design practices the gift encouraged children to do or learn about: Generate ideas, plan the solution, try the solution, create the prototype or process, test the solution, redesign the solution, make improvements to the solution, recognize patterns, apply mathematics, apply science,

Engineering text or context explicitly provided: A problem, criteria, constraints

Additional engineering thinking and design skills addressed: Spatial reasoning, creative thinking, designing, problem solving, logical thinking
