Dinosaurs - Mystic Island
Dinosaurs Mystic Islands is a single-player puzzle game that asks the player to place different shaped islands onto a game board in a way that keeps the carnivorous and herbivorous dinosaurs separated. The puzzle comes with 6 pieces that form whole islands when they are connected. The player must think critically and creatively about how they connect the island pieces, so that a herbivore and a carnivore are never on the same island. There are many levels of difficulty, and each level is accompanied by a diagram of the islands. The easy levels give the locations of dinosaurs and the orientation of the pieces to connect the islands, while the more difficult levels only show the outline of the different islands. The game focuses on spatial reasoning and design, and promotes engineering thinking by giving the player a goal with a specific set of constraints.
Engineering thinking and design practices the gift encourages children to do or learn about: Define a problem, test the solution, redesign the solution, make improvements to the solution, try the solution, analyze the solution, learn about the problem, recognize patterns, generate ideas
