The Book of Cars and Trucks, written and illustrated by Neil Clark, is a book for children ages 5 and up about the different types of cars and trucks and the parts that make them up. The book encourages kids to ask why car parts are designed the way they are as the narrator, Cogz, guides them through the design.

This book is well written and teaches young kids how to analyze the parts of the vehicles presented. Walking through the parts that make up each vehicle teaches kids about design concepts and encourages logical thinking. There is a lot of information packed into this short read but the characters help carry the story and make it entertaining with their comments. Parents may need to further explain some concepts but overall the book is very comprehensive. At the end, there’s a small quiz for kids to apply the knowledge they’ve learned from reading the book. The Book of Cars and Trucks is a cool book that will teach kids about engineering in a context that they see working first-hand all the time.
