College of Engineering

The Purdue Systems Collaboratory invites applications from outstanding candidates as a Faculty of Practice at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. This faculty member will join a vibrant, multi-disciplinary community of scholars who are committed to building the science of systems needed to enable effective next-generation complex systems that provide many vital societal needs.  As a Professor of Practice, the faculty member will educate students about the methods, theories and practices needed to deal with complex systems challenges, so that those students can lead efforts to address many of the societal grand challenges of the 21st century.

We expect the candidates to have practical domain expertise that will complement Purdue’s strengths in areas of national need, such as energy systems, manufacturing and service industries, transportation infrastructure, water network, global enterprises, defense systems, climate/environment and ecology, and healthcare policy and delivery.  The candidates will also have expertise in systems-relevant topics such as – but not limited to – practical systems thinking, the interface of technology and policy, decision-making and human choice, policy mechanism design, and design thinking.

We are seeking highly qualified, creative individuals with either: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral level degree(s) in engineering or related field; or at least five years of experience in industry and/or government related fields relevant to systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The three year, renewable, non-tenure track Faculty of Practice appointment will be at a rank (Assistant / Associate / Full) commensurate with the candidate’s credentials in the School(s) within the College of Engineering – or with a joint appointment with a School or Department in other Colleges at Purdue – that best match the candidate’s education, experience and interests.

The Faculty of Practice will leverage their experience to lead the educational and engagement efforts of the Purdue Systems Collaboratory. They will develop and teach courses in systems and facilitate interactions with collaborators inside and outside Purdue University. Because the Purdue Systems Collaboratory includes faculty participation and support from across Purdue, the Professor of Practice will have collaborative opportunities with educators across Purdue’s world-renowned Colleges. In addition, tremendous opportunities for collaboration also exist with large number of manufacturing, information, healthcare, and energy industries in the region.
