The 2017-18 academic year is well underway! Our students fill Grissom Hall's Peter Wang Student Excellence Center daily with their energy and innovative ideas as they work together in groups or study alone. We've had some exciting events already this semester, such as our joint IISE-IEGSO Career Fair, a first-ever "Dynamic Careers in IE" panel discussion, and our annual Homecoming BBQ. Read our stories below about ground-breaking faculty research, new personnel, a new internship in India, and improvements to Grissom Hall.
We hope you'll come for the Nov. 16 Barash Lecture when we welcome back former IE Head Ferdinand Leimkuhler as our speaker.
In a few weeks we'll send out a new issue of our Rethink IE magazine, focusing on decision making and how we work with that here at Purdue IE. (Request a copy from rethinkie@purdue.edu.) We appreciate your interest and support, and invite you to join us as the Purdue University School of Industrial Engineering continues to "rethink IE".

New medical-diagnostic device made out of paper
Ramses Martinez, Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and his team have created a new medical-diagnostic device made out of paper. It detects biomarkers and identifies diseases by performing electrochemical analyses - powered only by the user’s touch - and reads out the color-coded test results, making it easy for non-experts to understand.
