Long-awaited Grissom Hall renovation under way

After many years of waiting, planning and hoping -- Grissom Hall is finally getting a much needed renovation! The building will be closed until August of 2015 as it undergoes a truly transformational interior reinvention and all faculty and staff have been temporarily relocated to the 4th floor of the new Wang Hall.  Wang Hall is located directly across Northwestern Avenue from the Physics Building.

Wang Student Center, before and afterWhile the outside of Grissom Hall will remain virtually unchanged, the inside will essentially be gutted from external wall to external wall. The old hallways and offices will be replaced with the latest in technology and furnishings to provide a next generation learning and research environment that encourages communication and collaboration at every turn.  The new space will be brighter, more energy efficient and more inviting to the students and faculty members who spend long hours there.

The center point of the "new" Grissom Hall will be the Peter Wang Student Excellence Center, which will provide a striking visual focal point for the building and the School. (See the current space compared to the remodeled space, above.) As the first thing a prospective IE student will see when they enter the building and the first thing a Purdue IE student will see each morning – the Peter Wang Student Excellence Center will serve as an exciting visual reminder that Purdue’s School of Industrial Engineering continues to lead the way in IE education – and in helping the world ‘Rethink IE.’

The renovation is a part of President Mitch Daniels' Purdue Moves effort, which holds an expansion of Purdue Engineering facilities, faculty and student support as one of its major priorities.  While part of the Grissom renovation is funded through university resources, the school still needs to raise nearly $2.5 million to support this effort.  This means there are a variety of naming opportunities which provide an excellent opportunity for our loyal alums to leave a lasting, personal legacy on the School of Industrial Engineering!

Naming opportunities are available beginning at $10,000 and can be funded over a five-year period, if desired.  If you would like more information about how you could join the growing number of IE alums who are helping with this effort, please contact Purdue IE at 765-494-5400 or ieadmin@purdue.edu.
