Professor Gary Cheng is elected ASME Fellow
Gary J. Cheng has advanced the knowledge of advanced materials manufacturing, specifically in laser based micro/nano manufacturing, nanomaterials integrated laser shock peening, additive manufacturing of functional nanomaterials, and integration of low dimensional nanocrystals. His group studied the relationship of processing, structure and property of many new techniques, including 6 awarded and 9 provisional US patents. These studies led important applications in aerospace, navy, energy and biomedical industry. His contribution to research development and education has led to many awards, including NSF CAREER, ONR Young Investigator, SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer, ASME Chao and Trigger Young Manufacturing Engineer, Purdue University Faculty Scholar.
