Professor Gary Cheng is elected ASME Fellow

ASME fellows are nominated by their peers and have had ten or more years of active practice in Engineering and at least ten years of continuous membership in the ASME organization. The ASME Board of Governors confers the Fellow grade of membership on worthy candidates in the recognition of their outstanding engineering achievements.

 Gary J. Cheng has advanced the knowledge of advanced materials manufacturing, specifically in laser based micro/nano manufacturing, nanomaterials integrated laser shock peening, additive manufacturing of functional nanomaterials, and integration of low dimensional nanocrystals.  His group studied the relationship of processing, structure and property of many new techniques, including 6 awarded and 9 provisional US patents.   These studies led important applications in aerospace, navy, energy and biomedical industry.  His contribution to research development and education has led to many awards, including NSF CAREER, ONR Young Investigator, SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer, ASME Chao and Trigger Young Manufacturing Engineer, Purdue University Faculty Scholar.
