Said Darwazah joined his father and brother in 1980 at Hikma Pharmaceuticals, a small family owned pharmaceutical manufacturing company with then sales of around 1 million dollars and about 50 employees. After working as an Industrial Engineer in manufacturing, Said got his MBA from INSEAD in 1984, and later worked in Sales & Marketing at Hikma Pharmaceuticals. In 1991 he led a team from Hikma to the USA where they acquired West Ward Pharmaceuticals Corp., a manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals in NJ and worked until1994 as CEO and President of West Ward. In 1995 Said became the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hikma. In 2003 he joined the Cabinet of the Government of Jordan as the Minister of Health. In 2007 Said took over as CEO of Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC again, a position he still holds. During this period Hikma has grown to over 7500 employees with over 1 billion dollars in sales expected in 2012. It has manufacturing operations in the USA, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Sudan, as well as Jordan. Hikma is currently a public company listed on The London Stock Exchange. Said?s main interests are to promote better health. He is the founder of the Health Care Accreditation Counsel (HCAC), a nonprofit international organization to accredit health care providers and works nationally to improve standards in health care. He also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Jordanian Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS). His other interests are in education and banking and has served as a trustee of the University of Jordan, the Jordan University of Science and Technology, the International College (Lebanon), and the American University of Beirut (AUB). He has served as a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Jordan and is currently the Vice Chairman of Capital Bank of Jordan. He also serves as Chairman and board member of several NGOs.
