Research

My research interest is Air Traffic Management for the NextGen. Our Purdue group has been working on the specific field of Dynamic Airspace Configuration (DAC), which is proposed to dynamically partition the airspace field into sectors due to time varying air traffic information. The primary objective of DAC is to improve the air traffic efficiency and ensure the air traffic safety as the traffic load increases fast in the near future.

We have proposed a three-step algorithm to partition the airspace into sectors, which is described in the research page. Also, abundant analysis work using ETMS data has been done to further explore our algorithm.

So far, the algorithm only considers the traffic information as the primary factor to determine the airspace configuration. My research is also motivated by the weather information oriented airspace configuration methods.
