University of New South Wales - Australia

The University of New South Wales (UNSW), founded in 1949, is a modern, urban campus on 85 acres, located in the vibrant area of Kensington, near Sydney's eastern suburbs and is one of the Group of Eight, Australia's leading universities that are recognized for their excellence in research, scholarship and teaching. The downtown business district and Sydney Harbor are only 20 minutes by bus (3 miles), and Coogee Beach, affectionately known as Sydney's seaside village, is a mere 5 minutes away. Coogee Beach has an abundance of casual restaurants, pubs, cafés and beach access.

Generally, Study Australia participants reside in furnished, self-catering off-campus apartments and houses with other U.S. study-abroad students. All residences are within a short distance of the campus, and most students elect to live near Coogee Beach. Other housing options, including residential colleges, may be available upon request.

The Study Australia resident directors and UNSW study-broad office arrange several social and cultural activities during the semester, especially for study-abroad students. Sample events could include a harbor cruise, night at the Sydney Opera House, abseiling (rappelling), and trips to nearby wildlife parks.
